Nutritious Red Seaweed - Bacon of the Sea
Mmmm....Sea Bacon. Think seaweed. No, not the slimy green stuff that regularly washes up on our beaches. Instead picture red kelp, a renewable natural resource and a potential food source that resembles kale—not just in leaf form, but in nutritional content too. As an bonus, some people report that it tastes like bacon! Thanks to a loan backed by Lottery dollars, DulsEnergy Inc. of Portland now has financing to break ground on a red kelp operation in Newport. A new favorite of the restaurant scene, red kelp may be appearing on your dinnerplate soon!
