Airbase Support in Central Oregon

Prineville Airport is getting busy!

Prineville Airport is flying high because of a $2 million Lottery grant through the Oregon Department of Transportation and ConnectOregon. The grant helped to replace an old fuel system and build a facility for the Central Oregon Rappellers.

Fire suppression is a serious business in our state and having a centrally located operation helps cover all counties. The US Forest Service leases the Prineville airbase facility which is also home to three helicopters and two airplane tankers used to help fight fires.

The new improvements also provide an opportunity for other industries to move in and set up businesses. “Lottery dollars created opportunity for fire protection, increased jobs and future economic development,” said airport manager Kelly Coffelt.

Our beautiful Oregon landscape can breathe a little easier now that the airport has more chops to fight fires.
