Are Curses Real?
A 7-Eleven is a strange place for a ritual, but Roy B. from Coquille was used to it. He regularly buys Scratch-its at the 7-Eleven in North Bend where his favorite clerk engages in a light-hearted tradition: She puts an imaginary “witch’s curse” on his tickets. Roy doesn’t mind — in fact, he gets a kick out of this playful interaction.
Just back from a family trip to Maui, Roy was getting back into his routine, including stopping in for his usual Lottery tickets. He picked up four “Visit Oregon State Parks” Scratch-its, but the busy clerk forgot to “curse” his tickets. Roy wasn’t bothered — they’d pick up their little tradition next time.
Did the forgotten curse have anything to do with the results?
When Roy returned home to scratch his tickets, one of them won nothing, but another was a $10 winner. Roy was excited when the next ticket revealed a $25 win. But nothing could have prepared him for the biggest news of all — his final Scratch-it was a $50,000 top prize winner!
Roy returned to 7-Eleven to let the clerk know the big news—and to tell her, with a wink, it was because she had overlooked the “curse.” Roy didn’t share if he’d forbidden her from cursing his future Scratch-it purchases, but we wouldn’t be at all surprised!
