A New Draw to Southern Oregon

In 2019, the City of Grants Pass set out to build Southern Oregon’s first year round trail park. The result is Dollar Mountain — an all user recreation area featuring thoughtfully designed, modern trails built with mountain bikers in mind.

Supported in part by Oregon Lottery funding, the former goat farm has been transformed into a regional draw, poised to enhance outdoor tourism, attract visitors, and generate a boost to the local economy — and it’s quickly gaining momentum as a premier biking destination!

Trails for All

designed for shared use

From the start, Dollar Mountain was designed to be welcoming and accessible for a wide variety of users. Trails include child‑ and beginner‑friendly options that invite new riders and families to get outside and build confidence, alongside routes that accommodate adapted mobility bikes so more people can experience the landscape. These features reflect a commitment to inclusivity for the whole community.

At the same time, thoughtful planning helps hikers and mountain bikers enjoy the trail system together where it makes sense. Purposeful layouts, designated trail types, and clear use expectations all help reduce conflict and create positive experiences on shared routes. The result is a trail system that balances adventure with accessibility —intentional design that supports safety, enjoyment, and connection to the outdoors for everyone!

The Recreation Economy

A Shot in the Arm for Southern Oregon

Josephine County is already a destination for outdoor adventure. It draws countless visitors with exciting Rogue River jetboat trips, the historic Oregon Caves National Monument, and through its role as a “Gateway to the Redwoods”. Dollar Mountain builds on that foundation by adding a destination‑quality mountain biking experience close to downtown Grants Pass.

The trail system is expected to attract riders and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region — and beyond — encouraging longer stays and repeat visits. In turn, that visitor spending helps support local businesses, services, and jobs — strengthening Southern Oregon’s growing outdoor recreation economy.

Your Lottery Play Helps Support Oregon Parks

Oregon Lottery funds help make projects like Dollar Mountain possible. After the City of Grants Pass acquired the land, a $350,000 Oregon Parks & Recreation grant funded by the Oregon Lottery helped kick off trail construction and bring the community’s vision to life. Since 1998, Lottery support has played a vital role in protecting and enhancing both state and local parks across Oregon. Every ticket you purchase, every game you play, helps develop spaces that strengthen communities, support outdoor recreation, and keep Oregon’s special places available to us all.
