My mother-in-law once gave me plastic vegetables that we had seen as “free with purchase” from Fingerhut. The onion found a home in the kitchen for a short (very) time.

I Love my Mother-In-Law, she always gives me a new purse and some kind of clothes for Christmas. Usually the purse is your standard brown tone or black. And they always come with a lucky penny in it. I leave the penny and carry my luck with me wherever I go - and think about it whenever I buy lottery tickets! I really look forward to these new purses and haven't had to buy a new purse since I've known her. But one year she gave me this really bright RED purse - it was one of those that you say - wow, that is red! I do not think I own anything that bright red to use with it, kept it for a couple of years - never used it. Going through my closet with a girlfriends birthday coming up - I thought why not pass it on, I will never use it. She had been feeling really blue and needed a bright spot. So I wrapped it up, gave it to my friend and she loved it. I have even seen her use it a few times. Even though I kinda felt bad re-gifting, I feel good that someone is actually using it. And I left the "lucky penny" in the pocket to pass on the luck.

Happy Holidays!

I rewrapped a candle gift thingy. Then I forgot to give it away that same year to someone else. The next year rolled around and I thought it was a clever gift for the original giver. Too much time had passed and I forgot that they gave it to me in the first place.

The Christmas my husband and I went on a sugar free food plan the cookies, home made candies and breads were pouring into our house. We gave each neighbor a basket with the food from the prior neighbor. All went well until we accidentally gift wrapped and gave this great bread basket back to the original giver. Christmas has been slim pickings ever since.

My son needed a gift for a friend. We were cleaning out his closet and found a hat with truck on it. He loved trucks my son said I haven't wore that hat before he will love it. His friend opened it got all excited because last year he gave my son the same hat. My son and I just looked at each other. He wanted to know were we got one just like the one he gave us. I had to do some fast thinking.

Well, it seems I regifted a journal and it was written in so I was discovered. I thought I put in a new journal, so I regifted in error. What was written in the journal I don't know. I only know this particular relative no longer speaks to me. It's one person I no longer give Christmas gifts too, too risky. Maybe I will send her a lottery ticket, I'll try not to scratch it first.

I received a book that a friend had given me; unfortunately they didn't look inside as whomever gave it to them made a notation in it saying that they hoped they would like it!

I received a great birthday gift package from a florist. Within a couple days, the flowers all wilted despite my following the watering/temperature directions exactly. I called the company, and they offered to resend the flowers within a couple days. The following week, they did make a redelivery - and not only did they resend the flowers, but they also resent the rest of the gift package (chocolates, balloons, stuffed animal). I realized the day of the redelivery that I needed a birthday gift that evening for a family get together, so I knew what to do. I carefully opened the box and removed the card addressed to me ( a duplicate of the original card), and then happily took everything to the party.

When the gift box was opened, the recipient pulled out, much to my surprise, a gift card. The card was addressed to some other customer - the floral company must have mistakenly put in two cards, and I only removed the one addressed to me. I used this card as “cover” and said the floral company must have just mixed up the cards – phew!

Fortunately the gift was loved and no one was the wiser.

In the evening, after everybody had left our 1997 at-home wedding, my new bride and I were opening the wedding gifts. I opened a present from another married couple our age. Inside was one of those nice wood salad bowl sets. I pulled the bowls out of the box and noticed an envelope in the bottom of the box. I opened the envelope to find a nice wedding card. Inside was the salutation, “Dear Shelley and Allen, we wish you all the best in your marriage.” Our names are Hal and Bev. Ha! The friends who gave us the salad bowls are, yep….Shelley and Allen. They re-gifted the salad bowl set to us, and FORGOT to remove the card from THEIR wedding! Since Allen has a good sense of humor, when I told him about it, AFTER he recovered from the embarrassment, we both had a GREAT laugh!

That’s my re-gift story.

Last Year I received a gift from my husbands mother that actually still had her name on the gift tag addressed to her…at least I re-wrap and put a new gift tag…hehe…

I had a co-worker give me a horrible smelling candle an office holiday one year. I must have made a face when I smelled it because she assumed I didn't like it. Of course I lied and told her that I did, that it just wasn't what I was expecting. It worked out well because we had a gag gift party two weeks later and I used that gift - and it was a hit! I kind of felt bad because apparently it was my co-worker's favorite scent, but it definitely was not mine.
