Located
in John Day, Kam Wah Chung & Co. was the commercial,
spiritual and cultural center of Oregon’s Chinese population
from 1887 to 1948. It was a general store, a post office,
a library and temple.
In
the 1900s, people traveled hundreds of miles for the goods
and services they could only get at Kam Wah Chung. Today,
thanks to support from the Oregon Lottery and Oregon
State Parks, they come to step back in time. |
