Running
through the city of Seaside, the Neawanna estuary system is home
to 157 different species of birds. Coho salmon also depend on the
estuary as a passageway from ocean to stream and as a place to spawn.
With the help of a Lottery-funded grant from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement
Board, the North Coast Land Conservancy bought over 100 acres of wetlands and
forest to form the Neawanna Natural History Park.
Over $123 million in Lottery profits have gone to watershed enhancement projects
since 1999. Lottery profits also support education, job creation, and state parks.
