In Oregon and across the nation, March 3-9 is being observed as National Problem Gambling Awareness Week. This annual event is part of an ongoing national campaign to raise awareness of the issue of problem gambling and, in Oregon, to raise awareness of the free treatment available to those in need.
“The Oregon Lottery has been recognized as a national leader in helping provide treatment funding and educating players about problem gambling for many years,” said Oregon Lottery Director Larry Niswender. “It is important for the Oregon Lottery that those who play our games are doing so in a responsible and safe manner. Having time of day clocks on the screens of all our Video Lottery terminals and placing the 1-877-MyLimit problem gambling help line phone number prominently on those terminals is just part of what the Lottery does.”
During National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, the Lottery will be airing their award-winning “Powder Room” TV ad. The ad, produced for the Lottery by Brightwater Entertainment of Portland, has been recognized as the Best Coordinated Responsible Gambling Campaign by the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL). Additionally, the Lottery will update their website at oregonlottery.org and provide all Video Lottery retailers statewide with a Lottery-produced poster to highlight the special week.
Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has earned over $8 billion for economic development, public education, state parks and watershed enhancements. For more information on the Oregon Lottery visit www.oregonlottery.org
