With sales of Mega Millions tickets booming across the country, Friday’s estimated Mega Millions jackpot has been elevated to $540 million.
The new $540 million Mega Millions jackpot offers the winner the choice of taking the prize in one lump sum or receiving an annuitized prize yearly for the next 26 years. After taxes, the lump sum prize would give the winner a net payment of over $261.1 million. The yearly prize option, after taxes, would be over $13.9 million.
The Oregon Lottery began selling the Mega Millions game in March 2010. Since that time, Oregon Lottery Mega Millions players have won over $14.2 million in prizes. Including Oregon, there are 44 jurisdictions offering the game.
Mega Millions drawings are every Tuesday and Friday, at 7:59 PM. Players can buy Mega Millions tickets at any Oregon Lottery retail location until 7:00 PM on the night of the drawing, as well.
The Oregon Lottery reminds players to always sign the back of their lottery tickets, regardless of the game, and in the event of winning the jackpot, consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings.
